Appearance: Handsome, younger, blond, golden-eyed, often smiling, often looking like he did indeed steal the cookies from the cookie jar.

History:
-Born to two caring but conservative parents, youngest of three, in the fjords
-Family raised cows and horses
-Discovered fairly young that he could use the vice and liked using it even though he felt guilty each time
-Kept it quiet, used it sparingly, mostly just in emergencies... and when he wanted to befriend animals
-Family horse threw his mother, was about to trample her, he stepped in without thinking
-Once he (and his parents) realized what he'd just done, Detlef turned and ran, not wanting to give them a chance to reject him.
-Ran for a while, finally found Northcliff Pass, was tired, and there was an apprenticeship with the old stablemaster
-Old stablemaster wasn't great and also wanted to retire
-Detlef replaced him once the stablemaster was sure he could handle it

Personality: Detlef both loves and is scared of attention. He wants every eye on him, but the scrutiny is terrifying because of how much he loves what the vice offers him. He'll gladly throw himself into social situations and only after he's done so will he stop to think about what he's doing... which is really the story of his life, leaping before looking. What helps him survive his significant lack of foresight is his compassion and kindness. Detlef cares about others. Sometimes, he cares a little too much, a little obsessively, because he doesn't want to lose more people. It's not entirely healthy, more than a little insecure, which he'll eagerly cover up with jokes, sarcasm, and a double-helping of flirting. Even though flirting's gotten him into more than a few of those situations on its own.

When he's not focused on other people and how being around them makes him feel, there's a deeply hidden rebellious, bitter streak that likes to take over his thoughts. If the vice can be used to make people's lives better, why not use it? Why does everything have to be a struggle? But he's smart enough to know not to voice these thoughts. Detlef doesn't want to have to run again.

Abilities:
-Works with earth magic, with nature. Most of what he's figured out he can do has to do with animals - soothe them, enrage them, repel them - but he's also got a profanely good green thumb.
-Knows cow and horse medicine and tending, such as they are. Some of it seems to line up with people so in a pinch he can serve as a backup.
-Storytelling. You wanna hear about the landwhales he totally ran into on his journeys, forget how he told you just yesterday that he dreams of seeing one? He'll tell you all about it.

Reputation: He's often flirting, talks a lot but not is good at not saying much if the topic is him. He's good with animals, patient, and animals seem to like him rather well.
