He hugs Colin tightly, glad of the laughter and that somehow he's been able to help. The whole hero thing has likely been completely destroyed... but that's all right. He doesn't need someone looking up to him as a hero. Colin needs to know that there's healing and life after being hurt so deeply.
After several moments, Anders pats the younger mage's back.
"You've such a future ahead of you," he says confidently. "And these wounds won't stop you. They're not negligible, they're not little, but you're stronger than them."
Colin pulls back to wipe tears again, thankful his father taught him a handkerchief is a sign of a civilized man.
"I'm not going to--that's not my life anymore," he says with some determination now, choosing different wording from I'm not going to fail like that again because he hears it, he knows how it sounds. This sounds different. Determination and hope. He feels lighter. Freer. Maybe he can be less like a rabbit making mad dashes between burrows and actually enjoy some time lingering on the outside. "Thank you. I needed to talk about this."
"You're welcome. And your life is yours now. You get to choose the shape of it." He smiles brightly once they're parted, despite how tenuous their future really is. He's not going to stop working on it, and Colin has a chance, a genuine, real chance at being free.
"I have so much hope for you. So much faith in you. And I'm more glad than I've words for that I can help."
