A perfectly handwritten note

Warden Anders,

Recently, we spoke - or rather fought - over the measure of your guilt and the events of Kirkwall. I had been much troubled by your words, trying to reconcile the truth of them compared to my anger to your actions. I lost some very dear people to me, in the on-going rebellion that occurred, and I turned most of my grievous rage at you.

A friend of mine - I believe you know Pel of Clan Ashara - spoke to me about how desperation can turn a man mad with grief. How if a person is abused, again and again, without recourse or without relief, that person can break. Can do things that he would not normally do, but feel trapped when he thinks there are no other alternatives. She gave me ... perspective. I am still angry, but I also understand finally what you were trying to tell me under the shade of your own anger.

In mind of that perspective, I wanted to apologize to you, for speaking without compassion or true recognition. I can never reverse the wrongs my brothers and sisters have done to you, or to everyone you care about. I can, however, try to understand that there were two sides to this battle, and neither one of us won. Neither one of us wanted things to go as far as they did. We are all the walking wounded here.

I can do better, and train the next generation of Templars that we can co-exist with magic and not need to control it. I can teach them compassion. I hope one day, mages will know forgiveness. The times have changed, as must we.

In closing, let me tell you that you have a true friend in Pel Ashara. I also wanted to thank you for taking care of her so ably. She is a dear friend of mine in turn, and I only wish I could have done so much for her as you did, in her time of need.

I bid you good day.

Sincerely,

James L. Norrington
Knight Commander of the Templar Order
