[In between the first two rituals to drive out Justice, Cyril makes plans to see Anders for dinner and tea. He had made the candy as promised, and something else which he has wrapped in a cloth when he arrives. He's a couple minutes early, hopefully that doesn't put Anders too far out.]

Anders?

[Justice had tried getting him to stay too late, but for once Anders had overruled it. He had plans. This mean he's only just put down the food and drink in a tucked-away corner of the tavern when Cyril shows, and hasn't had time to really arrange it yet.

That doesn't diminish the warmth in his eyes, though. He's still getting used to there being people willing to help him out, and someone joining him for dinner and being seen with him is going even beyond that.]

Cyril. I've... Well, it's all here. It's not pretty yet, but it's here, at least. And I'm not singing anymore, another plus.

[He opens up the basket and pulls out plates and cups and cutlery, starting to set them out.]

Join me.

[Cyril grins and comes over to hug Anders before pulling away to settle at the table.]

What do you mean it's not pretty? It's food, that's always pretty.

[He slides over the small wrapped gift.] This is for you.. .well, likely more for your cat.

That's a fair point.

[He's smiling after the hug, and he finishes setting out the simple meal before taking up the package.]

Anything for my cat counts as for me. I like it when she's happy. I'm sorry I didn't bring anything for you.

[Gifts aren't something he really thinks about. He's never had much in the way of funds, or people to give things to, until here. He should do better. Especially considering what they have to put up with. The smile widens once he sees the toy and turns it over in his hands.]

It's perfect. Thank you. She'll love it.

[She will. Maybe not as much as she loves gnawing on the noses of sleeping people, but how could anything compare to that?]

[Cyril looks very pleased at his reaction.]

Oh good. I was worried, I've never made a cat toy before. I hope I used the right kind of metal. I didn't want anything too sharp or too hard.

It doesn't seem too sharp or hard in the least. The edges are rounded, it's lovely, Cyril.

[He's quite happy with it, and Anders tucks it into one of his belt pouches.]

I'm only sorry I didn't bring her here so you could see her play with it, but I thought that it would be nice to have a dinner without a paw trying to steal the food. Baked fish happens to be one of her favorites, and if there's leftovers they'll go to her. If there aren't, that's entirely fine.

[Anders takes a seat next to Cyril and starts dishing out some of the food, serving them both and then pausing with a plate held halfway out.]

I... forgot to ask if there was anything you didn't like to eat.

I like pretty much everything. [Then, after a moment,] I'm Dalish after all. We can't really afford to be picky.

[Though he's known a few that would poke their noses up at the idea of eating food cooked by a human, he's never been that sort.]

Do cats really do that? Try to steal the food off your plate?

I hear the not affording part. Not that we were starved in the Circles, but I find the choice between a bit of bread and a fist not much of a choice at all.

[He gives Cyril a flash of a smile that's less happy and more a slight offering of understanding.]

And yes. They'll steal all sorts of things. Anything that's shiny, or makes an interesting noise, or you might not want them to have. They're very creative. And very determined.

I can see why you like them. They seem resourceful, and not interested in listening to any one else's rules.

And yet they know when someone could use something more. They're far better companions than most give them credit for. And they don't drool.

[He sets Cyril's plate back down in front of him and finishes plating his own before taking a seat.]

I greatly approve of things that don't drool.

Hm, note to self: drool less.

[It's a joke, of course. He's really not one to do something so unbecoming.]

[Anders grins for a moment before shaking his head.]

It can't really matter that much to me anymore whether you do or don't. I've somehow found someone who is interested in me and me alone. Being exclusive is... new.

[Cyril's expression softens a bit from flirtation to genuine happiness for his friend.]

New but good, I hope?

New but good.

[He echoes it with a warm smile.]

And little challenging. Flirting's not just been fun, it's also been a way of... more than just getting someone to bed.

[Protection, deflection, at times.]

Knowing that most flirtation from this point on will simply be a show and no meaning behind it will take some adjusting.

There can still be meaning behind it. I for one, love flirting with my friends for example. Friendship means something.

Mm. Point. I worded it poorly. Intent, perhaps. I flirt, but I won't be following it up with sex for almost everyone.

[He nods in Cyril's direction.]

I'd still flirt with you, for instance, but as lovely and delightful as you are...

[They both know how that sentence ends.]

Oh good, I'd hate to miss out on the flirting.

As for the rest, I would never assume something you weren't comfortable with. We had fun, and now we can be friends and you can be all lovey dovey with your fellow Warden.

[He smiles back.]

I'd miss the flirting as well. I'd accept the loss if Nate needed me to, but I'm glad he doesn't.

[He takes a first bite of his food before shrugging a little.]

I get to be lovey dovey and still flirty. It's an appealing combination.
